Pop Culture Icon & Writer George Plimpton Dead

A sad day: Mr. George Plimpton has died. Plimpton was known in many roles in his life: writer, actor, activist, even an "athlete" for a brief period. But the biggest aspect of his life was really his writing - including his work with the Paris Review.

I remember him best for his "upper crust" dialect that sounded more like a Boston Brahmin than a New Yorker (which is really where he was from).

There is one show that I will always remember Plimpton starring in. The show was sort of a "take" on Masterpiece Theatre, called Mousterpiece Theatre. This was an old Disney Channel show (from the very first years of the Disney Channel) that presented old Disney animation from a "more serious" perspective.

Those that are "younger" may also identify George Plimpton acting as one of the psychologists attempting therapy on Matt Damon's character of Will Hunting in Good Will Hunting.

God Bless His Soul,

The Best Hot Dogs, Period

Have you ever had a great hot dog? While you can always get your favorite "dogs" from the old supermarket (my personal favorites from the store are Hebrew International), there is a place in Winston-Salem that offers the best dogs possible.

J.S. Pulliam Barbeque (most folks just call it Pulliam's) is known for outstanding "southern" barbeque, but their hot dogs are to "die" for! Pulliam's is located in a small, historic (or should I say falling down) building on the northeast side of W-S, off of Old Walkertown Road.

The sign on the front of the place says that the "joint" has been around since 1910, and you can just about believe it judging from the condition of the building. There is no seating (except for the outside parking lot), so on a hot or rainy day be prepared to sit in your car while you eat. But if you like visiting interesting areas of the Piedmont Triad , don't miss this place....

Oak Ridge Homecoming

Some of you may know that I had a stranger than usual high school experience - I attended/graduated from a military school!

Well, next weekend my "old school" will celebrate Homecoming. My brother, who has been working on developing a new website for our old Alma Mater (he went there, too) will be coming with me to see old friends! Oh, I'll drag my wife behind and a good friend of mine (who also graduated from the place).

Guess were nuts, eh?

Cooler Weather

Is Fall coming to Greensboro, North Carolina? It sure feels that way. Autumn is my favorite season, except for the raking of leaves:)

I hope that this year's Fall is cool, crisp, and a little dry (we need some rain every now and then). I pray that it is not like last years: wet, wintery, dangerous. It's not that I don't like winter weather, but we North Carolinians don't do well on ice, and last year thats what we got - ICE:(

We Went Fishing

Well, we had a great time fishing this past weekend! My brother, cousin, and a good friend all went to High Point Lake on Saturday, and caught around two dozen fish! My cousin, Michael, caught the biggest fish....
